Attitude

Shing, what is so ironical of the blue smile? I typed a "colon" and a "bracket" sign and out comes this blue face thingy. Hmmm.... i have no other meaning but a plain simple genuine smile :)... honestly!

Anyhow, i am very encouraged by my dad and want to write this down. He is in the chinese choir (probably adults one) and i have never seen anyone practising so hard as him. I always hear him sing and he really tries so hard to learn the new tunes each time. If the score does not have Do Re Mi, he will ask me to write them down for him so he can keep singing to himself before he goes to church for practice with the rest of the choir. Everyday without fail, i see and hear him sing the songs over and over again. Sometimes, i will play the piano to aid him in the learning and i see his enthusiasm even though he fumbles. He is just so sincere in doing this one thing right for God.

I dont know about you all but i am greatly heartened and rebuked at the attitude i take towards music and service. Music comes relatively easy to me, as in i can learn a song very fast and remember the tune, timing and all. He puts in his best effort though it takes extra long time as compared to all of us but it sure puts me to shame. Why? Because i take for granted the "talent" i have and so i do not seem to put in effort to learn my piece and part. No matter how "talented" one is, one's attitude towards serving God should always be to do one's very best with the God-given ability. I need to give time for practice and familiarization of the piece and ask God for help to sing the song with understanding. I may be able to sing in perfect pitch and great harmony, but is the heart and process right?

I kind of think it is similar to the woman who gave her only two mites which was more than all the rich people who had given (Mark 12:41-44). She gave her all and Jesus made mention of her deed and thus recorded in the Bible for us to read and be encouraged. At the end of it all, it is not about how well I sing, but the attitude that takes me through my service to God.

The process of our service in the various ministries God has placed us in is equally important as the end result, if not more. It is about how we do our job and how we do it stems from why we do it. I see my father's love for God manifested through his determination, dedication and faithfulness.

Thank God for a faithful father who teaches me simple truths without preaching....but through the most powerful tool....EXEMPLARY LIFE. May my life too be a living testimony and example to my Great LORD who has given His all for me so that i can live eternally.
